Client Emails Regarding Hard Disk Problems

Good morning. I have a question. I have a Samsung HN-M101MBB 1TB hard drive that is working off a SATA connection to my motherboard. I have had no trouble with it since I bought it until I tried to fit another drive into the spare 3.5 inch housing inside the computer. The computer isn’t a brand name it is one I have had built for me. When I switched the computer on the drives seemed to be powering up but I got no operating system or request to select a boot device. I thought it must have been a master/slave issue so I adjusted the jumpers to resolve this but the same thing happened. I took the new SATA drive out and left the original as it was but now that won’t start up either. Only this time I am receiving a message telling me that I need to automatically detect my hard drive in the BIOS. When I do this it finds the hard drive and when I save the settings and continue to boot it simply does a warm reboot and takes me back to the same message. Could you help or offer some advice as I think I have lost all of my data now and a lot of it was personal and sentimental. Thanks in advance.

I stumbled across your website and wonder if you could help me with a problem I am having with one of my networked pcs. It boots ok and lets me open up Windows XP. I still use Windows XP because I find it stable and easier to network than other Windows versions. Anyway, the computer boots up normally and then when I get to the Windows desktop it fires up a little grey dialogue box then shuts down and restarts. It does this over and over and perhaps once in every ten attempts it stays on long enough for me to try to switch to safe mode. When I get into safe mode it tells me that my hard drive has errors and I need to run either chkdsk or defragmenter. But when I try to open these the machine shuts down and restarts and so on. I’ve had the computer to a friend of mine who is a bit of a technical whizz and he says that there are bad sectors on the hard drive. I’m not sure what that means but he says it is a problem and that the ‘swap file’ cannot be written to. I want the data off the drive but can’t get the computer to stay on long to do so and attaching the drive to another computer seems to result in the drive just not being accessible. What can I do?
