Client Emails Regarding Maxtor Hard Disk Problems

Maxtor Peripherals PTE OneTouch II 300GB 7.2K USB FireWire External Hard Drive
I have two Maxtor Peripherals PTE OneTouch II external hard drives with 300 GB each that has both stopped working for quite some time now. I removed them from their enclosures and put them on a docking station to see if I can make them work and retrieve the data stored on them but that did not work. I have observed that both hard drives are possibly shorted by the notebook’s 19V adapter, which is way beyond the permitted 12V. It looks that there are damaged diodes on both hard disk though I am not an expert on this.

Maxtor Maxline II 320GB ATA/ 133 HDD, 3.5″ IDE Hard Drive
I own a PC that has a Maxtor Maxline II 320GB ATA hard drive installed inside it. It crashed recently so I had to boot it up from the start. My problem is when I turned it on it says USB drive found but I don’t see the files stored in it when I check My Computer. I check the Computer Management and Disk Management but a window pops up saying “You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it”. Then, I only get to choose between MBR (Master Boot Record) and GPT (GUID Partition Table). I did not go on with it since I am worried it will format the disk and I would lose all my files.
