We are going to be trusted with a device containing many years of your life. And we will need your name and number so we can discuss this further with you. Below is what information we collect from you, why, how long we store it and what you can request we do with it.

Your contact details — name, e-mail, phone number and a return address if we send something back via post. These come from the online diagnostic tool, contact form, email or over the phone.
The contents of your device — a recovery method reads every sector of the media, because there is no way of knowing at the time which sectors contain your files. We do not view it, list it or use it for any purpose other than to send it back to you.
| Quoting, and doing the recovery | To perform our contract with you |
| Payment and accounting records | Legal obligation |
| Website analytics | Your consent — see cookies below |
| Defending a legal claim | Our legitimate interests |
Where a device holds health records or other special category data, our basis is the establishment or defence of legal claims, or your explicit consent.
The recovery is done in-house. Your device is not sent to a partner laboratory; nor will any of your device’s contents be shared with another person. The United Kingdom remains the country in which both your device and its contents remain.
To perform certain tasks four companies require some of your personal identifiable information: our web-hosting service provider; couriers for tracked returns (only your name and address); our payment processor and accountant; and Google Analytics should you opt-in. We do not sell any of your data; nor do we pass your data onto third parties for marketing purposes. We share it only when the law requires it.
Google may process analytics data outside the UK, under the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. Nothing else leaves the country.
| Recovered data on our systems | Wiped 30 days after you confirm you have it, or sooner on request |
| Enquiries that do not become jobs | 12 months |
| Job records and invoices | 6 years — the limitation period, and HMRC's requirement |
| Analytics | 14 months |
If you want to know what personal information we store about you, you can request it. If you find an error with your data, you can ask us to correct it. If you don't wish us to have some or all of your data any more, then you can ask us to delete it. You can ask us to pause using your information. You can ask us for your data in a format which allows you to take it elsewhere (eg onto another company's system). You can object to us using your information on the basis of our legitimate interests, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
Write to Peter House, Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 5AN or phone 0161 871 0788 to make requests; there is no charge, and we'll respond to your query within one month.
Tell us first if there has been an issue with how we've handled your data, so we can put it right. You can also report your concern directly to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling them on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies are not placed until you decide. A cookie banner is shown once and records your response in a single entry on your own device.
If you accept, Google Analytics informs us which webpages are being accessed, and how users are arriving. If you decline, the script is never requested, rather than loaded and told to ignore you. It will never be used to identify you.

We make no automated decisions about you — every quotation is written by an engineer who has looked at your device. You do not have to give us your details, but we cannot quote, recover, or return anything without them. If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it.
